If exempt from shelter construction, why do I have to pay a tax?

If, for technical reasons, it is not possible to build a shelter or if the need for protected places is already covered in the assessment zone, the owner of the building is required to pay, instead, a replacement contribution.

This tax, also called replacement contribution, must firstly make it possible to finance a large part of the creation and maintenance of the value of public shelters.

ATTRIBUTION OF PROTECTED PLACES

What if my building has no shelter?

Public shelters have been built under school and public buildings or even in underground car parks for this purpose. In addition, during new subdivisions, collective shelters are built in order to protect the new population of the said subdivision. On request, the regional office will inform you of the location of your protected place.

What is the principle of allocation of protected places?

The principle of attribution protected places is relatively simple:

Buildings with shelters:

  • vertical descent of the population, then counting of available places

Buildings without shelters:

  • travel to a nearby shelter with places available
  • moving to a public shelter located under a public building (schools, etc.)
