Care and support

Welcome, supervise and support people affected by an emergency situation.

02 Understand the mission

Welcoming, protecting and supporting

Assistance provides assistance to people affected by an emergency situation or disaster. It sets up reception structures, registers people, provides accommodation and takes care of essential needs such as subsistence, clothing and light first aid.

The objective is to quickly create a safe and humane environment, then to help the people in care to regain as much autonomy as possible. Teams must take into account children, the elderly, people with reduced mobility and any situation of particular vulnerability.

Reinforcement for health partners

When the situation requires it, attendants can support medico-social establishments, health structures or hospitals. Some also follow a specialization in emergency psychological assistance in order to support disaster victims and responders.

The journey of a person in care

Welcome and guide

On arrival, the team explains how the place works, collects the necessary information and quickly identifies special needs. She then directs each person to a waiting, resting, information area or to a specialized partner.

Ensure basic needs

The help desk organizes temporary accommodation, distribution of drinks and meals, hygiene options and access to reliable information. Particular attention is paid to families, the elderly, people with reduced mobility and people who do not speak French.

Prepare for the rest

Support aims at a gradual return to autonomy. The teams document needs, facilitate contact with loved ones and coordinate referral to the relevant municipal, social or health services.

A human presence in a structured organization

Listening is not enough: agents must also circulate information, respect confidentiality, manage flows and maintain a calm environment. Regular exercises involve setting up a station, registering, managing accommodation and collaborating with health partners.

  • Install spaces adapted to different audiences
  • Keep a reliable register of people received
  • Disseminate understandable and up-to-date instructions
