The mission was received on 19.03.2020 by the Command. The choice of mission leader fell to Yves Lambrigger because of his experience in a cleaning company.

The mission generally consisted of the maintenance of all the premises used by the troop. In detail:

  • Disinfection of dining tables after each meal
  • Daily disinfection of door handles
  • Implementation of a vehicle cleaning and disinfection system. Setting up a drive-thru for cleaning and spraying interiors.
  • Acquisition of equipment intended for disinfection, in particular a back pressure boiler, used to spray disinfectant
  • Maintaining the hygiene of the various sanitary facilities
  • Keeping all premises, especially floors, clean using a single-disc floor cleaning machine
  • Information to the troops on hand hygiene (signs indicating to wash your hands, for example)
  • Installation of a hydroalcoholic gel dispenser at the entrance to Colombières, then at the parish center and intended for the troop
  • Help serving meals (generally, one person per service)

A whole system put in place

The idea behind the mission was to create a cleaning and disinfection system capable of guaranteeing the safety of all civil protection personnel, regardless of the location frequented or the vehicle used.

In addition, different professional cleaning products and pastes of different colors were ordered (red for sanitary facilities, blue for surfaces and green for vehicles).

A rotation involving two teams

To carry out this mission, a tournus was put in place. During the week, the civil protection personnel entered service at 0800 in Colombières. Each day, different tasks were assigned to civil protection personnel. Regularly, the Hygiene group is divided into two teams to take care of cleaning tasks at Colombières then at the parish center, at the office, as well as at the Valavran PC. Among them:

  • Sanitary tour
  • Garbage tour
  • Waste sorting
  • Cleaning and disinfection of floors
  • Disinfection of door handles and dining tables
  • Vacuuming the carpet at the Colombières entrance and spraying it (this spraying of this carpet also served as shoe disinfection)
  • Filling hydroalcoholic gel dispensers
  • Setting up the refectory after disinfection
  • Washing up after every meal

Note that civil protection personnel were masked and gloved when helping with service, and masked when washing dishes. At the request of the Command, a delimitation between “dirty zone” and “clean zone” was set up.

Entrance to the clean area of Colombières.

Concretely, at Colombières, civil protection personnel had to, in a first locker room, remove their shoes, walk through the regularly disinfected showers in socks, in order to reach the “clean zone”. From there, access was possible to the refectory and dormitory in clean socks or slippers. When serving sufficient safety social distances. Also, for health safety reasons, meals were served directly on plates.

The basic idea: that only one person touches a single kitchen utensil so that there is no possible transmission. In order to guarantee impeccable hygiene, the quantity of garbage bags used was significant. Enough to fill two containers per week. In addition, the cloths used for washing dishes were systematically washed every day, i.e. 15-20 cloths per day.
